The telecommunications industry is evolving at an unprecedented pace. The rollout of 5G, the rapid expansion of fiber networks, and the growing demand for digital security services are fundamentally changing the requirements for network infrastructure. Behind every mobile connection, website request, or cloud application lies one critical service: DNS.
While DNS often operates behind the scenes, its performance directly affects the digital experience of millions of users. As networks become increasingly cloud-native and software-defined, traditional DNS architectures can quickly become a bottleneck.
Vodafone Türkiye recognized this challenge early and decided to rethink its DNS infrastructure from the ground up. At the same time, Vodafone Türkiye planned to relaunch its Secure Net service, a DNS-based security platform that protects customers from malware, phishing attacks, and other online threats.
Rather than treating these as separate initiatives, Vodafone Türkiye saw an opportunity to modernize both its DNS platform and its security services through a single cloud-native transformation.
Building a cloud-native DNS platform at carrier scale requires more than feature-rich software. Reliability, operational experience, and long-term support are equally important. Vodafone Türkiye therefore looked for a technology partner with proven deployments, extensive technical expertise, and products that had already demonstrated their capabilities in demanding production environments. Being an early adopter of unproven technology was never an option.
PowerDNS is a trusted provider of proven cloud-native DNS solutions. As part of its evaluation process, Vodafone Türkiye conducted a comprehensive assessment of our software quality, operational flexibility, cloud-native capabilities, and the seamless integration of our products as a unified DNS platform.
We are proud that Vodafone Türkiye recognized the maturity of our cloud-native DNS solution and selected PowerDNS as its new platform for both Internet DNS and DNS-based security services. Read the official Vodafone Türkiye press release below.
The Vodafone Türkiye project illustrates a broader trend that is reshaping the telecommunications industry. As operators modernize their networks, DNS is evolving from a traditional infrastructure component into a cloud-native platform that supports automation, scalability, security, and operational agility.
For Vodafone Türkiye, the transformation has resulted in a modern DNS architecture ready to support future network growth and digital services. Within the Vodafone Group, the deployment has become a showcase example of how cloud-native DNS can be successfully implemented in a large-scale carrier environment.
We would like to thank Vodafone Türkiye for the trust they have placed in PowerDNS and for the outstanding collaboration throughout this challenging project. Together, we successfully delivered a modern cloud-native DNS platform that sets new standards for performance, scalability, and innovation.
We look forward to continuing this successful partnership and driving further innovation together in the years to come. Here is Vodafone Türkiye’s official press release:

VODAFONE LAUNCHES CLOUD-BASED DNS SOLUTION
Having already introduced 5G across its network infrastructure, Vodafone has now launched a cloud-based mobile internet DNS solution and started providing services to all mobile internet users.
Operating with the vision of leading Türkiye’s digital transformation, Vodafone continues to migrate its mobile network elements to its own cloud infrastructure. Replacing its traditional internet DNS solution, Vodafone has deployed PowerDNS’ cloud-based DNS solution on its own cloud infrastructure and has started serving all mobile internet users through this new platform. This implementation also marks a first within the Vodafone Group. At the same time, Vodafone continues to enhance the internet access quality of its mobile users through improvements in DNS service latency. By delivering superior performance in 5G environments, where low latency is critically important, Vodafone is further advancing the customer experience.
Yago Lopez, CNO Vodafone Türkiye, commented:
“As Vodafone Türkiye, we continue to work intensively to make our network fully ready for 5G. By preparing our network end-to-end for 5G, we have enabled 5G readiness across every layer, from the 5G core network to base stations and transmission layers. By deploying a cloud-based DNS solution on our own cloud infrastructure, we have taken another significant step forward in our 5G infrastructure journey. We will continue working to deliver a high-quality experience to our customers with a strong 5G infrastructure.”
New architecture and redundancy
The cloud-based DNS solution benefits from all operational capabilities of cloud architecture, including flexibility and automation. With the new internet DNS solution, site-based DNS service redundancy has been made dynamic. As a result, the mobile internet DNS service now has an even stronger architecture in terms of both local redundancy and site redundancy.
Value-added services
With PowerDNS’ cloud-native solution, value-added services such as Securenet DNS and Safe DNS are now delivered to mobile internet users through the internet DNS solution. Previously distributed across different platforms, these services have now been consolidated into a single solution to achieve greater simplicity.
