PowerDNS DNSdist 1.8.0 Released

Written by Remi Gacogne | Mar 30, 2023 10:19:00 AM

We are thrilled to release DNSdist 1.8.0 today! This 1.8.0 release contains a significant amount of changes since the last major release, 1.7.0, which was released a bit over a year ago.

We try to stick to a major release every six months, but this one took a bit longer than expected. Major improvements include reduced memory and CPU consumption for the use case of running dnsdist on devices with few resources, OpenWrt integration, options for faster TLS, and many other improvements. For a summary of the changes since 1.7.3, please have a look at the announcement of the first release candidate.

In addition, this release contains a few fixes for minor issues that were found in the third release candidate:

  • #12687: Fix ‘Unknown key’ issue for actions and rules parameters
  • #12672: Fix a dnsheader unaligned case
  • #12654: secpoll: explicitly include necessary ctime header for time_t

Please see the DNSdist website for the more complete changelog and the current documentation. The upgrade guide is also available there.

Please send us all feedback and issues you might have via the mailing list, or in case of a bug, via GitHub.

We are immensely grateful to the PowerDNS community for the reporting of bugs, issues, feature requests, and especially to the submitters of fixes and implementations of features.

The release tarball and its signature are available on the downloads website, and packages for several distributions are available from our repository.

With the 1.8.0 release, the 1.5.x release will be marked “End of Life” and the 1.6.x & 1.7.x releases will go into critical fixes only mode.
