We’re proud to announce that our cloud-native deployment solution, PowerDNS Cloud Control, has been officially validated for the Sylva Project. After our successful certification for the VMware Ready for Telco Cloud Program, this new milestone reflects several months of focused effort and underlines our deep commitment to supporting open, interoperable, and sustainable cloud infrastructure for the telecommunications sector.
The Sylva Project, led by Linux Foundation Europe, is a collaborative open-source initiative aimed at developing a telco-grade cloud and edge computing framework tailored to the specific needs of European network operators. Among the project’s key supporters are some of the largest names in the telecom industry, including Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Vodafone, Telecom Italia, and Telefónica, as well as leading infrastructure providers like Ericsson and Nokia. The initiative seeks to reduce fragmentation in telecom infrastructure while ensuring compliance with the European Union’s strict requirements for data protection, security, and energy efficiency.
At its core, Sylva delivers a purpose-built cloud stack designed to support everything from centralized core networks to highly distributed edge deployments. As telecom operators accelerate their transition to cloud-native architectures and prepare for the coming generations of 5G and 6G networks, Sylva provides a common platform that enables them to deploy network functions with greater efficiency, security, and confidence. Through its reference implementation and continuous validation program, the project ensures that cloud-native network functions (CNFs) can be reliably tested, certified, and deployed across any Sylva-compliant environment.
To assess our cloud-native solution, the team at the Orange Validation Center first identified the stack capabilities required by Cloud Control. The stack was then deployed via Kubernetes and configured using a sample setup.
Once the environment was prepared, testing was carried out to ensure that Cloud Control could successfully run on top of the Sylva stack. We are delighted to share that Cloud Control passed the validation tests and is now officially recognized as a validated Cloud-Native Network Function (CNF) within the Sylva Project.
For PowerDNS, participating in the Sylva Project aligns naturally with our open-source DNA and our vision of a modern telecom infrastructure that is modular, transparent, and interoperable. Being part of Sylva allows us to demonstrate that our solutions work seamlessly within a standardized cloud environment – offering assurance to network operators that our technology can be deployed easily and consistently across a variety of platforms. This not only reduces integration complexity but also saves valuable time and costs for both vendors and operators.
Our successful validation within the Sylva ecosystem is more than a technical accomplishment. It reinforces our belief in the value of community-driven innovation and our dedication to contributing to a more unified and agile future for telco cloud environments. We are excited to continue our involvement in this groundbreaking initiative and to support the evolution of open infrastructure across the telecom industry.
